Study information & GDPR statement
By ticking the consent box and submitting this form, you freely give your explicit consent to the processing of the personal data you provide in this study.
Controller and contact: Raphaël BENTEGEAC — contact@refine-trial.org
Important: This study collects no patient data, only your own answers to simulated vignettes.
What we collect
- Identity and contact data: email, first name, last name.
- Account credentials: password (securely stored as a cryptographic hash; plaintext passwords are never stored).
- Demographic and professional data: age, sex, city, academic status, specialty and optional free-text specialty, nephrology subspecialty (if applicable), years of post-graduation clinical experience, primary practice structure (and optional free-text “Other”), and whether you hold a university appointment.
- Study answers: your diagnostic answers (initial and final), your confidence ratings (before and after AI when applicable), and the time you take to respond to each vignette. These data are essential to the scientific analysis of diagnostic accuracy, confidence, and efficiency.
- Study-related information: self-reported AI usage frequency, types of AI tools used, AI confidence level, assigned study arm, and preferred interface language.
- Technical metadata: consent flag, timestamps (e.g., account creation), internal administrative flags, and minimal technical server logs for security and diagnostics (which do not include study responses or identifying fields).
Purpose and lawful basis
Purpose: To run and administer this research study, including participant registration, study arm assignment, delivery of study materials, and statistical analysis of responses, diagnostic performance, confidence changes, completion times, and subgroup effects.
Lawful basis: Processing is based on your explicit consent provided at registration. Your data will not be used for any purpose other than those described without renewed consent or a separate legal basis.
Data storage and hosting
All application and database data for this study are hosted on the personal server of the investigator (Raphaël BENTEGEAC). By consenting, you acknowledge that data processing and hosting occur on this personal infrastructure.
Security: Passwords are cryptographically hashed, access to the database is restricted to authorized study personnel, HTTPS/TLS is used for encrypted data transmission, and server access is protected by operating-system-level controls and reasonable security hardening.
Access, sharing, and publication
Access: Identified data (email, name, and demographic information) are accessible only to the investigator and authorized study administrators. The study sponsor (CHU Lille) has no access to any identified data.
Sharing: Only de-identified or aggregated data may be shared with academic collaborators or included in scientific publications. No personal data will be sold or used for commercial purposes.
Retention and deletion
Retention period: Personal data are retained for up to 5 years after the end of the study, unless you withdraw your consent earlier. After this period, data will be deleted or irreversibly anonymized.
Deletion on request: You may withdraw consent and request deletion of your personal data at any time. Deletion will occur unless a lawful obligation requires limited data retention (e.g., minimal audit logs). Anonymized data may be kept for scientific reproducibility.

Under GDPR, you have the rights to access, correct, erase, restrict processing, object to processing, and request portability of your personal data. To exercise your rights, please contact: contact@refine-trial.org.

Participation is entirely voluntary. Your choice to participate or not participate has no impact on your employment, training, academic evaluations, or professional activities.
